Leather messenger bag: It gets better over time

The messenger bag got its name from its design inspiration: the leather bags that bicycle messengers used to carry around. These rectangular bags had enough space to contain newspapers, magazines, or mail. A shoulder sling was often fastened to the bag, so that the messenger’s hands were free to do other tasks, like throwing newspapers or holding the bicycle bars.

One great aspect of messenger bags is that they get better over time. Unlike other bags that succumb to wear and tear, a messenger bag gets even more comfortable and better-looking when used regularly. This has to do with the durability and adaptability of the leather fabric the bags are cut from. Leather is a naturally tough material. Combined with tanning and other industrial treatments, it becomes even sturdier, making it resistant to moisture, scratches, and stretching.

Messenger bags became a very popular bag choice for students, artists, and office people. Today, they have evolved to incorporate more hip and trendy designs. Even luxury brands are introducing messenger bag designs of their own. Still, these designs don’t stray too much from the fundamental things that made messenger bags popular in the first place: practicality and durability.
